Title
Trenton Road Stormwater Update (5 minutes)
Richard Hancock, NCDOT Division 5
Graham Summerson, City of Durham Public Works Department
Narrative
In the spring 2016, a resident delivered a presentation on recent flooding events on and adjacent to Trenton Road. The presentation included photos that depict stormwater runoff (from six lanes of interstate pavement) that flows through culverts under I-40, then overflows the banks of the stream bed, and accumulates alongside Trenton Road. The pipe that runs under Trenton Road at that location appears to not be able to handle the increased water flow. This causes water to flow into Leigh Farm Park through the pipe and more water -- which covers Trenton Road -- flowing into the park across the top of the road. When this happens, people are trapped because Trenton Road is the only access in and out of the neighborhood and it's not safe to drive through that overflow.
