Narrative
The US 70 corridor will continue to experience growth in residential and business development. Ensuring that existing concerns regarding equitable and sustainable means of transportation networks are provided for citizens and businesses is imperative.
Prior to the 2050 MTP development, the US 70 corridor in Durham County was scheduled to be converted into a limited access freeway. Concerns regarding multi-modal safety and access, connectivity of local businesses and communities, collector street plans, and existing and current impacts to transit networks stemming from the conversion of the US 70 corridor into a limited access freeway remained unaddressed. The US 70 East Corridor Study will provide a detailed analysis of the potential conversion of the US 70 corridor in Durham County into a boulevard, with focus on multi-modal access, connectivity, and safety.
