Destination 2055: Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) Objectives (15 minutes)

Narrative
The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO) in partnership with the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) invited the general public to complete a Goals and Objectives survey between November 16, 2023 and January 15, 2024. The intent of the survey was to gain a better understanding of the public’s perspective on policy goals within the adopted 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).
Participants were provided with a list of the (8) current MTP goals. Each goal was described, and examples of implementing the goals were offered. A total of 558 individuals participated in the survey and contributed a total of 445 comments.
DCHC MPO conducted an initial analysis of survey results to identify common and reoccurring perspectives. Additionally, staff compared overall perspectives expressed within the survey responses to perspectives shared by respondents who self-identified with one or more of the Environmental Justice communities in the DCHC/CAMPO area. The Connect 2050 Goals have been recommended to remain the same for Destination 2055, however based on the survey feedback, several changes to the 2050 Objectives have been drafted for consideration for use in Destination 2055. The proposed objectives are outlined in the attached memo. The revised objectives, as well as the previous memo that was distributed to the Technical Committee and MPO Board in February summarizing the public engagement, the compilation of the survey comments, and a summary of the comments from people who self-identified with one or more of the Environmental Justice communities are included in the attachments for reference.
